Editorial Guidelines
RoofVista publishes cost guides, material comparisons, and educational content to help homeowners make informed roofing decisions. These guidelines govern how we research, write, and maintain that content.
Editorial Independence
- •Our content team operates independently from marketplace sales and contractor relations.
- •No contractor, manufacturer, or advertiser can pay for favorable coverage, placement, or recommendations.
- •Content decisions are made based on what helps homeowners, not what generates the most revenue.
- •We clearly label any sponsored content or partnerships (currently none).
Data-Driven Accuracy
- •Cost data comes from our instant quote engine, which processes real satellite measurements and local contractor pricing.
- •We cite specific sources for claims about materials, regulations, and industry standards.
- •Price ranges are updated regularly to reflect current market conditions.
- •When we lack sufficient data for a claim, we say so rather than speculate.
Transparency
- •We disclose that RoofVista earns revenue when homeowners connect with contractors through our marketplace.
- •Our cost guides explain the methodology behind our estimates.
- •We distinguish between facts, data-backed estimates, and editorial opinions.
- •Publication and update dates are displayed on all content pages.
Corrections Policy
- •When we identify an error in published content, we correct it promptly and note the correction.
- •Readers can report inaccuracies by emailing editorial@roofvista.com.
- •We do not silently edit published content — substantive changes are noted with a correction date.
- •Outdated pricing data is marked as such and updated within 30 days of identification.
How We Research Roofing Costs
Our pricing data comes from multiple sources, cross-referenced for accuracy:
- RoofVista Quote Engine — our instant quote tool processes satellite roof measurements from Google's Building Insights API and applies material costs, labor rates, and regional adjustments based on contractor pricing data.
- Contractor Pricing Surveys — we periodically survey contractors in our network about their per-square-foot rates for different materials and project types.
- Industry Sources — we reference publicly available data from manufacturer price lists, roofing trade publications, and industry associations.
- Government Data — building permit costs, code requirements, and regulatory information come from state and local government sources.
When our data is limited for a particular region or material type, we note the limitation rather than extrapolating from insufficient data.
Content Types & Standards
Cost Guides
All cost figures include specific source attribution and date of last update. Ranges are used instead of single-point estimates.
Material Comparisons
Comparisons cover cost, lifespan, maintenance, climate suitability, and warranty. We do not recommend specific brands or products.
City/State Pages
Local content includes climate context, permit requirements, and regional pricing based on real data. Generic filler content is not acceptable.

Step-by-step guides are reviewed for accuracy by contractors in our network. Safety warnings are prominently displayed where appropriate.
