Methodology

The RoofVista Roofing Cost Index is compiled from actual contractor quotes submitted through our marketplace platform. Every data point represents real-world pricing that homeowners received from pre-vetted, licensed roofing contractors.

Data Collection

Prices are collected from completed quote submissions on our platform. Each price per roofing square (100 sq ft) includes both materials and professional installation labor. We exclude outliers beyond 2 standard deviations from the state median.

Material Categories

We track 8 primary roofing material categories: 3-Tab Shingles, Architectural Shingles, Premium/Designer Shingles, Cedar Shake, Natural Slate, Clay/Concrete Tile, Standing Seam Metal, and Membrane systems (TPO/EPDM). Each category aggregates comparable products from major manufacturers.

Geographic Coverage

Current data covers 6 states with active contractor networks: Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine. Additional states are in data collection and will be added as sample sizes reach statistical significance.

Update Frequency

The index is revalidated daily. Material prices reflect a rolling average that accounts for seasonal fluctuations and regional supply conditions. Municipal-level adjustments (metro premiums or rural discounts) are available through our API and instant-quote tool but are not reflected in the state-level averages shown here.
